Qur'an 3:141

وَلِيُمَحِّصَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَيَمْحَقَ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ

And that Allah may purify the believers [through trials] and destroy the disbelievers.
